BUT I DON'T FEEL WORTHY

Do you ever worry about how effective you are, or how unworthy you are to be a leader in your church? Well, there are many reasons why God would not want you. But don't worry, you're in good company. Just take a look at some of the "unworthy" types that God has used in mighty ways.

Jacob:
was too old
stuttered
was rejected by Paul
was a liar

Abraham:
was too old
stuttered
was rejected by Paul
was a liar
Moses:
was too old
stuttered
was rejected by Paul
was a liar

John Mark:
was too old
stuttered
was rejected by Paul
was a liar

How well did you do in identifying these "inadequate" persons? Here are the answers plus a few more folks who God used despite their shortcomings.

  • Moses stuttered (Exodus 4:10)
  • David's armor didn't fit (1 Samuel 17:38-39)
  • John Mark was rejected by Paul (Acts 15:36-39)
  • Hosea's wife was a prostitute (Hosea 1:2-3)
  • Jacob was a liar (Genesis 27:36)
  • Abraham was too old (Genesis 17:15-17)
  • Lazarus was dead (John 11:11-13)
  • David had an affair (2 Samuel 11:2-4)
  • Solomon was too rich (1 Kings 3:10-13)
  • David was too young (1 Samuel 17:32-33)
  • John was self-righteous
  • Jesus was too poor
  • Naomi was a widow
  • Paul was a murderer, so was Moses
  • Jonah ran from God
  • Gideon and Thomas both doubted
  • Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal
  • John the Baptist was a loudmouth
  • Martha was a worry-wart
  • Mary was lazy
  • Samson had long hair
  • Noah got drunk
  • Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse?
  • So did Peter, Paul - well, lots of folks did
